I am so excited for Passover this year, a sacred time where we honor the Lord’s command to celebrate the supernatural, transformative, and live-saving power of Jesus as we remember the covenant God made with mankind!
“And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt,” (Exodus 12:13).
In the Old Testament, every person who put the blood of the lamb upon their doorposts was saved. Back then, the blood of a sacrificial animal is what spared them from the death angel that passed by, however, in the New Testament, Jesus took the Passover further, because through His sacrifice, He overcame death entirely! Now, during Passover you are not only being spared from death, but through the blood of the Lamb of Jesus, you now have rank and authority over death itself!
“…For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us: Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth,” (1 Corinthians 5:7-8).
Hebrews 8:6 says, “But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises.” Jesus came to show us that not only is He the sacrificial lamb that will save us from death, but His resurrection is a sign that He has given us all power of death in every area!
“Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;” (Hebrews 2:14).
Because of Jesus, “…death is swallowed up in victory,” (1 Corinthians 15:54). Hallelujah! We no longer have to put blood on the doorposts and wait inside for death to pass us by, we can now face and defeat death through Christ Jesus! God has not only given us a pass from destruction, He has now given us the authority to control it!
Paul said, “But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen: And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain,” (1 Corinthians 15:13-14). Passover today is nothing without the resurrection!
God commanded us to celebrate Passover in Exodus 12:14, “And this day shall be unto you for a memorial; and ye shall keep it a feast to the Lord throughout your generations; ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance for ever,” but because of Christ, our Passover covenant is established on greater promises than that in the time of Moses! Take the limits off of God this Passover because through Jesus, every area of your life has been redeemed from destruction!
“Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies;” (Psalm 103:4).
By applying the blood of Jesus to every area of your life, death must pass over you! Passover is a time to remember and be thankful for what God has done for you. He is giving you a pass from death and the opportunity to live with Him in eternity! John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” This Passover, remember and honor His covenant!
Passover isn’t just a time to come before God with thanksgiving but also to honor Him with a special sacrificial offering for what He has done! Deuteronomy 16 explains that when we gather for Passover, we should not come empty handed!
“…they shall not appear before the Lord empty: Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the Lord thy God which he hath given thee,” (Deuteronomy 16:16-17).
The Passover offering is a sacrifice that should be saved up for twelve months and presented before God during this holy feast. When you come before the Lord and honor Him with your sacrifice during this season of Passover, He will release His blessings over you for the next 365 days!
