DAY 2:

Have you ever noticed men and women who are attracted to a position of power, influence, and significance, in the church or in the world, doing whatever they can to get close to the one who paid an unknown price to legally walk in unspeakable power and glory?

Through the years, I have seen and heard many giving honor and praises with their lips, but the motive of their heart is jealousy and greed. Their lack of love influences their fleshly and emotional desire to be “first,” but they’re blinded by what they think they “know,” and without a heart of understanding they will end up being last. This is an example of the character of Lucifer. He could not stay submitted to Jehovah and His throne, because he wanted to overtake it.

One thing I love about Elisha, is he tarried with Elijah and he was submitted, loyal, and faithful to him until the end. It was in his faithfulness that he was able to receive a double portion. He endured and stayed close to Elijah. Several times in scripture, he is recorded saying to Elijah, “… As the Lord liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee,” (2 Kings 2).

“And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me. And he said, Thou hast asked a hard thing: nevertheless, if thou see me when I am taken from thee, it shall be so unto thee; but if not, it shall not be so,” (2 Kings 2:9-10).

Today, it is rare to see people stay with their mentor until the end.. I mean in their hearts, with love, appreciation, honor, loyalty, patience, and faithfulness. Notice the last portion of the scripture above.. “if you see me when I am taken from thee, it shall be so unto thee…” Elisha was not running all over trying to do his own thing. He stayed where God called him to not only be rooted, grounded, trained, and prepared, but where he would be most useful for the kingdom and for God’s will to be done, not his own..!!” ~David E.
