DAY 50:

“Do you have the heart to pursue God’s heart?

“And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David to be their king; to whom also he gave their testimony, and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will,” (Acts 13:22).

David’s love for the Lord was so deep, that nothing mattered more to him, than finding God’s heart. To be after God’s heart, you must selflessly and ruthlessly pursue His heart in EVERYTHING, not just some things. Did you know that God wanted to make Saul an eternal king?

“And Samuel said to Saul, Thou hast done foolishly: thou hast not kept the commandment of the Lord thy God, which he commanded thee: for now would the Lord have established thy kingdom upon Israel for ever,” (1 Samuel 13:13).

Because Saul could not obey God, he could not be established forever. Saul disobeyed God’s commands twice. The first time was when he did not wait for Samuel before performing a sacrifice, and the second time when he did not kill all of the Amalekites and their animals, as God instructed him to do.

I remember a time when I wondered why God treated Saul more harshly than David, because it seemed like David did worse things. Jesus visited me in a dream and gave me understanding. He said, “David, I don’t judge like man does. It is one thing to sin against my holiness, and it is another thing to sin against my authority.” Saul sinned against God’s authority, therefore he was removed from being king.

“Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice… Because thou hast rejected the word of the Lord, he hath also rejected thee from being king,” (1 Samuel 15:22-23).

Through Saul’s disobedience to God, he was basically saying he knew better and was going to do his own thing. When a king stops obeying God’s commands, he is removed. David, on the other hand, was willing to do anything and everything God told him to do. In fact, David did not just wait for God to tell him what to do, he pursued God’s heart on his own. He always inquired of God when he needed to make decisions.

People that are “after God’s heart,” will pursue and seek His heart and will in every area of their life. A person who has the heart to pursue God’s heart is also interested in intimacy with the Godhead… People after God’s heart also seek His face and find it!! I am praying that you develop a heart that is after God’s, and that you never stop seeking and pursuing His heart and will for your life and for the greatest harvest of souls the world has ever seen..!
