DAY 26:

“Do you have a forgiving heart?

“Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven,” (Matthew 18:21-22).

The Father sent His only begotten, sinless Son, to save the world from ALL sin. Why? Because He desires relationship with mankind! The only way reconciliation with the Father could happen, was to send the Lamb of God to shed His forgiving and redeeming Blood to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Having a forgiving heart positions you to receive forgiveness. I have seen people take Matthew 18:22 literally and they keep a tally sheet against their brothers and sisters, say, “The scripture says forgive 70 x 7.. That means I only have to forgive him or her 490 times..” That’s foolishness.. People who say things like that have no idea that they are a contradiction to God’s heart and His harvest. God doesn’t keep track of our sins. When we repent, He is faithful and just to forgive!! Not only does He forgive He forgets.

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness,” (1 John 1:9).

Today, even in the Church, there is a reluctant spirit when it comes to forgiving people when they do hurtful things to us. In fact, there is a rise in trying to justify such wickedness. This is not the heart or way of God! Forgiveness can’t be approached from emotions, feelings, or immature limitations. It must be approached from love! Willing to restore and redeem relationships God’s way.

Imagine if God kept track of every little or big thing you did or did not do each and every day? Where would your hope be found? When you do not approach other people’s sins or failures the way you desire God to approach yours.. through love, mercy, and forgiveness.. you won’t be forgiven. The measure of mercy, grace, and forgiveness you extend or don’t, is the same measure you will receive. God’s Word is true and it will not return to Him void.

“So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it,” (Isaiah 55:11).

Do not let your hurt feelings, disappointments, or misfortunes at the hands of others cause you to risk believing this very important truth about God’s requirements for forgiveness!
